Trump, that the president couldn’t remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook before her employment case was resolved, the outcome may be deceiving. FOX 24 US The Department of Justice has tapped two prosecutors with expertise in organized crime and terrorism prosecutions to implement a White House directive to crack down on its political opponents, a department spokesperson confirmed to TPM.  The department told TPM in a statement that the initiative they are leading, called Joint Task Force Vanguard, began in March 2026 in response to NSPM-7, a national security memorandum ordering federal law enforcement and prosecutors to treat ideologies that oppose the administration as signs of domestic terrorism. FOX 24 US The Supreme Court cast its long-telegraphed death blow to independent agencies Monday, confirming that the president can fire at-will civil servants that were meant to be insulated from political backlash. FOX 24 US The Supreme Court on Monday rejected, 5-4, Republicans’ attempt to limit which mail ballots can be counted, an effort which would have unleashed chaos and disenfranchised voters for the 2026 midterms and beyond.  The Republican National Committee had sued Mississippi, one of many states that accepts ballots mailed by Election Day but received by election administrators after that date.  “The federal election-day statutes do not prevent Mississippi from counting absentee ballots postmarked by election day but received up to five days thereafter; nothing in the federal election-day statutes requires ballots to be received by election day,” wrote…

FOX 24 US Democratic Secretaries of State are hailing a Thursday court ruling shutting down key components of Trump’s March executive order that, in part, directed the U.S. Postal Service to clamp down on mail-in voting. FOX 24 US The Census Bureau is walking back plans to unveil a new, more inclusive way to document race and ethnicity, delaying updates that would have affected policy about everything from SNAP benefits uptake to redistricting.  New race and ethnicity collection standards will no longer be used in the 2027 American Community Survey (ACS), according to a little-noticed update posted last month to the Federal Register.
